On December 12, 2025, Bungie’s newest expansion for the popular first person shooter video game Destiny 2, released. Titled Renegades, this expansion sees the Destiny universe take on a more Star Wars-y look, adding locations that are familiar to fans of both franchises.
However, with the campaign and dungeon Equilibrium [a harder, 3 player mission with unique mechanics], that is all that Bungie has graced the fans with. There’s been no permanent additions since Equilibrium dropped. And it’s been two months.
While that may sound recent, seasonal passes often drop new, pseudo-temporary content; however, none has been seen during Episode: Lawless, the current season. Other than an out-of-meta Exotic [unique rarity] weapon, and new armor ornaments themed after the Cabal [an enemy faction], one cannot help but to think, “is this game getting stale?”
Some people are happy with the current climate of D2, and the meta hogs are having a field day. But other players find the current climate unsatisfying. There’s no raid [extra harsh and long, 6 player mission], and nothing new beyond cosmetics that are mediocre at best.
The state of the game is actually really sad,” said one unsatisfied player. “Pete Parsons [former CEO of Bungie] ruined the game after laying off 17% of Bungie’s workforce due to the success of The Final Shape [previous Destiny 2 expansion] paying them more than him.”
However, this could also be due to Bungie’s new game, Marathon, releasing in less than one month. Bungie may just be sidelining D2 so they can focus on their new child.
Who knows? Maybe D2 is finally dying, or it’s just another rough patch in this game’s already rough, nearly decade-long history. Stay tuned for more!
