Last October the Blue Flame Dance team performed at the Halloween pep rally. Then they seemed to disappear. Questions were raised such as: What happened? Where did they go? However, I’m here to report that the Blue Flame team will be performing at the upcoming pep rally.

The dance team began back in 2022 under the direction of Coach Williams. The team performed exclusively at basketball games during the 21-22 school year. At the end of that school year, the team performed at one pep rally. Then the following October the team performed for the last time…for a while. Coach Williams accepted another job someplace else and everything seemed to be over.

That was until Coach Stokes stepped up to take over. Unfortunately, it took months for Coach Stokes to be approved for the position. By the time the team got approved and came back together basketball season was well underway. With only some games left, and no dance prepared… the dance team couldn’t perform and again lost hope.

Coach Stokes ended up getting a performance for the team at Afro-Fest and the upcoming pep rally in March. When Ms. Stokes told the group they were ecstatic to know they could still perform somewhere.

When asked about how she felt after Coach Stokes announced the opportunities, Janerah Dixon said, “I felt surprised because I didn’t think we’d be able to get an opportunity to perform on such short notice after our disappearance, yet relieved.”

On February 28, three members performed at the Afro Arts Fest which was hosted by Ewing High’s Black Student Alliance. That was the team’s first appearance in months. The performance was to show people that the team was back. The team performed an African-style dance which was taught by Coach Stokes. Only three members were able to attend the performance and those three members were able to learn the dance in only two practices!

Stay tuned for the Blue Flame Dance Team performance this March, you won’t want to miss it! If you want more information about joining the team for next season please reach out to Ms. Stokes.
