Some coping tips that can help handle stress.

Teens are killing themselves.

The suicide rate among people ages 10 to 24 years old climbed 56 percent between 2007 and 2017, according to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in The Wall Street Journal.

Is school stress killing our teens? Let’s take a look. School is the most common cause of stress. Getting good grades, tests, quizzes, homework, classwork. Not only that handling the social part of school too. It can be a lot.

And are we doing anything to help teens? Yes in some ways. But we continue to pile more work on them and just telling them not to stress.

There are suicide hotlines and assemblies. There are some things parents can do. They can just ” Listen carefully to teens and watch for overloading.” states to aacap.org. But the fact is that after all this help, students still feel pressured and still think about suicide.

And students admit to being stressed- “ Yes, all the time.” said Chase Bolden, EHS class of 2023.

When asked what part of school stresses him the most he said, “Math, it’s everything about it, sometimes the teachers, mostly the work.”

Teens are constantly trying to meet academic demands. They are constantly trying to please teachers, parents and keeping up with their peers. Imagine wanting to do self harm because you are so stressed over academics. Well that’s how a lot of teens feel these days.

Elijah Costello, EHS class of 2021, says he has heard students talk about suicide “ Yes, at least every year I would here 4 to 5 people mention it”.

Are we ever going to figure out a way to help our teens before it’s too late?
