Rise Against Hunger is a non-profit organization that combats hunger worldwide and targets communities where there is food insecurity, which supports the nutrition, education, and health of children and their families.
This event was made possible by different organizations such as the Trenton Plates The World Takes, Trenton Area Soup Kitchen, and Arm in Arm which contributed to the cause of making 100,000 bagged lunches for those in need.
42 Ewing High School students from the Rotary Interact Club, Key Club, Environmental Club, and National Honors Society had the opportunity to participate in the Rise Against Hunger event that occurred in the Cure Arena Center.
These students and other volunteers helped make 25,000 bagged lunches out of 100,000 in the first shift of meal packaging. All these bagged lunches would be put in a box which would be sent somewhere in Trenton or around the world. Every box that was filled with these bagged lunches would feed a student for a whole school year (180 days). Overall, the Rise Against Hunger event was able to make 120,00 bagged lunches.
I want to thank all the club advisors who made this event possible for us Ewing High Students because it was a great way to evolve ourselves with our community. Not only were we able to package meals for these families, but we were also given a learning experience about the topic of food insecurity, and how several people around the world are currently struggling due to food insecurity. Additionally, throughout this experience, my peers and I acknowledged that there are lots of places and communities that rely on these lunches, and by doing these events we are helping many people.
