Power of Fall: Yourself and Surroundings

Kiyara Sickles

Nature and the changing colors of fall offer many the opportunity to enjoy art in nature.

Fall season has finally arrived! We know this from the cooler, crisper air, the hues of oranges on the trees, and the cute but spooky decorations covering every other house on our walks to school. Not to mention the transformation of our Instagram feed; what so recently was beach and back-to-school pictures are now posts of pumpkin-spiced everything and friends chilling in cozy sweaters.

There is more profound meaning to fall as well, which we often forget or ignore. Fall is often said to symbolize change- it is a transition from the warming energy of summer into the cold, darkness of winter.

“I like how the leaves fall down, the way they make the environment look calm and serene.” said Munira Arkuwollie, EHS class of 2020.

Amidst this change in our environment is the perfect time to keep your mind on what truly matters: yourself!

As humans, we are products of our environment. There too is a lot of change in our lives at this time. We have adjusted to the motions of school, possibly acquired some new friends, and are hopefully living our best life.

School plays an essential role in this for we often let our personal lives affect how we learn and what we choose to connect with; whether it be in a positive manner such as reading more, or in a negative manner by losing hope in a class just because of one bad grade.

If you started school out rough, now is the time to put the energy into changing it, just like the season and if you are doing well then continue to do so!

Take advice from mother earth and let your worries drop like leaves, be bold like a plump pumpkin in a field of dirt, and be forgiving with yourself like we are to the decline in temperature.
