After the success of The Weeknd’s recent song “Popular” and his recent concert performances on Spotify, he broke his own record for the most monthly listeners with over 113,000,000 people.
This record is truly amazing and well deserved since The Weeknd is a well known artist especially with his old record of 4 billion streams of the song “Blinding Lights”. This award does in fact mean he is the first artist to reach 100 million monthly listeners.
Additionally, The Weeknd has been blowing up with more popularity since he released the song popular and did a collaboration in the game Fortnite where players were able to play any songs from The Weeknd. This helped to promote his music. Also at his recent concerts he has worn a familiar mask to another artist and that artist is MF Doom who was most iconic for that mask.
The Weeknd wears it as a tribute since MF Doom died in 2020 on October 31st at St James Hospital. This tribute The Weeknd did was respected by many fans of his and is a way for Doom’s legacy to live on.
That during this year The Weeknd also joins the famous artist Michael Jackson as the only male artist with multiple number 1 songs from three albums with one of his songs, “Die For You (remix)” featuring artist Ariana Grande.
Hopefully The Weeknd will be able to continue is legacy as a well known artist and even possibly be able to break a tone of more records.
