On May 10, 2023, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed Senate Bill 1718. The bill affects mostly illegal immigrants however it will also affect the American families who live in Florida. Currently, this bill is the strongest anti-illegal immigration bill in the country but this also leads other people who are against illegal immigrants to get the courage to set new laws/bills that will harm immigrants
The SB 1718 brings six new regulations that companies and immigrants must follow or else they will be fined or sent to jail.
These new regulations open the door for other anti-immigration policies that can ultimately affect other people’s lives.
Regulation such as these makes things harder for undocumented immigrants than it already is. Many people struggle to be employed but now that these policies have been set in place people have to stop hiring but firing people due to the legal consequences.
However, these new laws also have affected business owners such as farmers and manufacturers employing undocumented immigrants.
Most of these companies are hard labor and not many people like to do these jobs due to the fact of how hard it is physically and mentally.
Now many companies don’t have enough employees to have the work done in time! Florida is made up of 2.7 million immigrants make up 26% of Florida, that is one-third of Florida’s population. Not only that but 300,000 immigrants work in construction and these policies, have caused many construction companies to pause construction in many places/neighborhoods in Florida.
These regulations open the door for other extreme regulations to be passed, affecting undocumented immigrants all across the United States.
